Two Hotels in Tallaght Close doors - January 2009
The Glashaus Hotel closed in January 2009 along with the Tallaght Cross Hotel. Both hotels are owned by property developer Liam Carroll.
The hotels form part of Tallaght Cross Town Centre which has been developed beside The Square shopping centre and Tallaght hospital. They were both aimed at the top end of the business market. Now the the Abberly Court Hotel, the Plaza Hotel and the Tower Hotel are expected to cater for the business community in Tallaght, all of whom are very experienced and professional.
Person of the Year Awards
THE pride of the communities turned out for the Tallaght Person of the Year Awards on Friday 25 November 2008 in the Plaza hotel in Tallaght. The event marked the 25th year in which people from the area were nominated and awarded for their selfless work and contributions to the areas in which they live.
Over 230 guests from across Tallaght's community, business, social, religious and political sectors turned out for the night including Deputy Eamon Gilmore Leader of the Labour Party, who was the special guest of honour and who presented the various awards to each of the category winners. In his opening speech Deputy Gilmore welcomed his fellow Dail members TD Charlie O'Connor (Fianna Fail), and TD Pat Rabbitte (Labour) as well as Mayor Marie Corr (Labour) and former TD Sean Crowe. Deputy Gilmore said: "I do not know of any other community council awards like these and it is a great credit to those behind it like Jim (Lawlor, secretary] and Patricia Bryan (Chairperson] and the other outstanding members of the Tallaght Community Council who keep the event going. "It is a huge success to keep it going and it is such a huge contribution to community life."
Patricia Bryan, Chairperson said: "'Tonight is one of celebration, acknowledging achievements and of course commemoration. "Tallaght/s greatest asset has always been its people and these awards have played an important role in recognising those unsung heroes who are out there working tirelessly within our community and who, over the last twenty-four years, have been recognised by their fellow peers for their energy, commitment, dedication and a willingness to give something back to their communities'. Messages of goodwill from both President Mary McAleese and An Taoiseach, Deputy Brian Cowen T.D, were read out on the night. As part of the night's celebrations Tallaght Community Council welcomed back the previous twenty-four overall Tallaght Person of the Year Award winners and their family representatives.
