Tallaght Theatre Group was formed, as an amateur theatre group, in 1975. The members, from the age of 16 and upwards, came from all over Tallaght and the surrounding areas.
The group moved into their new Theatre behind the Cuckoo’s Nest pub in May of 1997. Since then, Fishamble Theatre Company performed the world premier of From Both Hips by Mark O’ Rowe, prior to it’s run at Project@the Mint, and in Glasgow. Blackbox Theatre Company previewed it’s production of Are You Listenin’ To Me Gaybo? before it’s successful run in the Dublin Theatre Festival and it’s nation-wide tour.
Tallaght Theatre Group produced Who’s Life Is It Anyway? by Brian Clarke as our debut play in our new theatre in November 1997. On The Level Theatre Company premiered Hatch 22 in December, and Tallaght Youth Theatre presented A Midsummer Night's Dream by the Bard in February of this year.
Since then, Liberties College Bull Alley St performed The Imaginary Invalid by Moliere, which was well received.
On the weekend of the 27th to the 29th of March 1998, inclusive, Gael Linn presented Fèile Dràmìochta Atha Cliath, an Irish Theatre Festival of five plays. At the presentation ceremony,on the Sunday, there was a positive response to the proposition that this should become an annual event. More details as they develop.....
